Information used on your device

Doomsurfing saves your onboarding progress, personal or family mode, selected apps, preferred break length and current break session. It also stores Screen Time permission status, family setup status and schedules needed to run the features you choose.

App selections are handled through Apple’s Screen Time frameworks. The app saves Apple-provided selection tokens so that it can apply restrictions. Some settings are shared locally with Doomsurfing’s own extensions so scheduled breaks can operate.

The usage report processes activity durations and available date ranges supplied by iOS, and displays totals for selected apps. The current report implementation does not upload those usage totals to a Doomsurfing server or include them in family CloudKit records. Available history depends on what iOS returns.

Optional family sharing through iCloud

Family setup uses Apple’s guardian authorisation on the child’s iPhone and a private CloudKit share to connect a parent and child. This requires Apple’s account and sharing services. Doomsurfing does not ask you to create a separate Doomsurfing login.

The shared family record contains link identifiers, pairing verification information, public security keys, connection status and timestamps. It also carries break requests, homework or bedtime schedules (including days, times and time zone), requests for temporary access, the parent’s approval or refusal, and delivery acknowledgements.

Apple stores and synchronises these records through CloudKit, and the connected participant can receive family-control information. Local copies support the app’s operation. Selected-app tokens, usage-report totals, message contents and call contents are not included in the family record.

Pairing uses a private, expiring code. Share it only with the parent or guardian involved in setup. Camera scanning reads the pairing information used to accept the iCloud share. Family requests are digitally signed, and the device’s private signing keys are stored in the iOS Keychain.

These controls help protect family requests; they are not a claim that all stored data is end-to-end encrypted. Apple’s account, sharing and service protections also apply.

Camera and other permissions

Camera access is used to scan the child’s pairing QR code. The current scanner reads the code on the device; it does not save or upload camera photos or video. You can decline camera access, although scanning will then be unavailable.

Screen Time authorisation is needed for app restrictions and usage reporting. Child mode requires parent or guardian approval through Apple. The current app does not request access to your contacts, microphone, photo library or precise location, and does not read your messages or call contents.

Subscriptions and Apple services

Purchases, restoration and subscription management use Apple’s StoreKit and App Store. The app checks verified subscription information, including the product, expiry, renewal state and revocation status, to decide whether subscription features are available. It saves a limited local record of the product, last verification time and access expiry to support temporary offline access.

Doomsurfing does not receive your payment-card details through this purchase flow. Apple handles payment and Apple Account information under its own privacy terms. Apple may also make sales, subscription or diagnostic information available through its developer services; the publisher’s use of those services must be confirmed before this notice is final.

Advertising, tracking and this website

No advertising SDK, third-party analytics SDK, tracking identifier collection or custom analytics upload is present in the reviewed iOS source. The app does not contain a data-sale or advertising-sharing integration. This description covers the current implementation, rather than unverified future services.

The current website uses no analytics scripts, advertising cookies, contact forms or browser storage. When the website is hosted publicly, the hosting provider’s request logs, retention and processing locations will need to be added to this notice. Those hosting practices are not yet confirmed.

Your choices and retention

You can change your selected apps and break preferences in the app. You can manage camera and Screen Time permissions through iOS, subject to Apple’s family controls. Removing Screen Time authorisation affects blocking and reports; it does not itself erase all saved settings.

Family setup includes a Disconnect control. Disconnection is not the same as erasing every family record. The current build does not provide a complete, user-facing “delete all data” process, and cloud deletion can fail when iCloud is unavailable. Do not rely on disconnection or uninstalling the app to delete every cloud record or Keychain item.

Settings and family information are retained to support the app’s operation; the current implementation does not specify a fixed automatic retention period for every record. The final notice must confirm the publisher’s retention and deletion process. Apple controls the underlying Screen Time history and its own service records.

Manage or cancel a subscription through Apple’s subscription settings. Removing the app or disconnecting a family link does not cancel a subscription.

Children and family controls

The family features are designed around Apple’s guardian approval and a linked parent/child setup. They exchange the control information described above, rather than message contents, call contents or a child’s detailed usage report. Parents and guardians should review this notice with the child and keep pairing codes private.
